Like I've talked a little bit about on the home page, I'm somebody who has lots and lots of hobbies! As an artist, I've always wanted to appreciate as many forms of art as I can— even if I struggle with it at first. There's so much to learn, and it's been such a blast to learn everything I've been curious about... which is why I've decided to pick up coding! Even with how intimidating it initially seemed, it's been so satisfying seeing the progress I make with each line of code.
Aside from my hobbies, I'm currently trying to finish up my associate's degree in teaching; I am studying to be an English teacher! After flip-flopping between a couple of other majors, English education felt like it was really me— like this is really something passionate that I can pursure to better myself and to better the community around me. Even if it doesn't pay much at the moment, I feel like the difference I can make for the students I'll teach will make it all worth it. These kiddos are going to be in school for about a third of their day throughout the week; I might as well make it a good experience for them, right? :P
Growing up as a little chudling raised by immigrants, I hated English with every bone in my body. In the first few years of elementary school, I hated reading, writing, and comprehending both of them. All I wanted to do was draw cats. Cats were, like, my whole thing growing up— and they still are. (This is important info.) Then, during an ELL field trip to our local library, the librarian offered a free book to all the students in this small little class. Begrudgingly, I chose the one book that had a cat on the cover: Warriors: Starlight. Right at the prologue, I was hooked; that might've been the one chapter book I actually wanted to finish reading! Since finishing that book, I kept reading more. My grades got better, my reading level got higher, and I craved to read more and more books— not just within the Warriors franchise, but anything else that looked interesting to me. Along with my desire to read and write going through the roof, my love for drawing grew as well. This book series is still such an important part of my life, and it's also what inspired me to teach English! I'd love to help other students find the right book that gives them that same spark I had.
I work retail at the moment which is pretty fun! I would like to branch out and find opportunities to get me experience in teaching, but at the same time... money. I'm sort of figuring it out as I move along, though... it is my first time being alive, after all! In between school, work, and helping around the house, I spend my time indulging in all the hobbies I love— like this Neocities site!
Social media has become so scary over the years!! There's always something going on with these big platforms. Facebook is flooded by AI bots posing as real people, Instagram is engineered to be toxic and to promote doomscrolling, and don't even get me started on the shitshow that Twitter has become! Although I do want to post and express myself on the internet, there just isn't a friendly place to do so... which is why I've decided to just make my own website with my own flair. Coding everything from scratch just feels so much more personal— like baking something from scratch. I could totally buy a box mix of my favorite kind of cake and bake it that way, but by measuring every ingredient carefully, the end result is much more satisfying while being geared toward my own tastes! (Can you tell I'm really craving chocolate cake right now...)
Zeytoon means 'olive' in Arabic— zeytooni is sort of like baby-speak for the same word (like sweetie, puppy, etc.) Zeytoon is also the name of my fursona, the beast I named my Neocities site after!
